You know, Bill, this is a really thorny issue. On the one hand, a neighborhood should be able to protect its children. If I had a young child and a convicted child molester moved next door, I'd want to know so that I could caution my child and take precautions myself. On the other hand, however, it opens the door to ferocious harassment of a person who may not be a danger and can destroy the person's attempt to get on with life utterly.

And what about the cases in which it is discovered afterward that the person had not, in fact, molested any child? Even though innocent, the person's life could be ruined.
