Well, since I didn't have csco in the early 90s its hard for me to relate... (and I can assure you that if I did have it I would not be sitting HERE typing..lol), but anyway, for Ariba to completely dominate like cisco did they will have to address these complex issues and successfully win over all the startups attempting to do the same thing, and we don't have any evidence they can do that... YET. Whereas with cisco they had a new product which they defined, I mean.

A company called me a few days ago which is a startup doing ecommerce for electronics. I asked who their competition was and they don't see Ariba as competition, of course not because Ariba is sort of a general solution and these ecommerce companies are going after targeted niches with specific requirements. Those projection numbers from Forrestor include ALL these niches together and Ariba doesn't have a product to solve those problems yet, they will have to acquire these little companies or recreate the tech themselves.
