Isn't LU a gorilla in all of the legacy technologies of the old phone system,

Nope, Lu has all open standards than anyone can build to, and they don't have the software lock in Internet that Cisco has. What they have is one hell of a good marketing program with fantastic customer rapport with the baby bells that they used to be a part of.

I really respect and read Mr. Fun, but he got fooled on this company this year. Last year, when the oldsters on this thread were all posting to the Cisco thread, we had a constant spitting argument going on Lu Vs Cisco with a lot of engineer types. Mr. Fun made many valuable posts going over the various advantages of LU's equipment Vs Cisco, and indicated that he like Cisco, but had his Investors Portfolio weighted toward LU.

We were impressed with Fun's expertise, but felt that LU was an old-line company, unionized, with a General Motors outlook on life, that would not do as well as Cisco. If you pull up year to date on LU and Cisco, you will see that we were right, and Mr. Fun was wrong.

Fun admitted his mistake this summer when LU took a dive, and added a lot more Cisco to his portfolio.

Don't take this post as a knock on Fun. I really respect the guy, and I am sure I have made a lot more mistakes investing than he has.

I have been meaning to post about this, because it points up that the experts can be wrong, particularly if they are looking at the trees rather than the forest.

Fun is out there at the conventions talking to the salesmen, on the phone with the top managers, and can blow us all away with product knowledge and inside info.

We are looking at the companies from an overall Gorilla aspect, and taking into account the historical knowledge that a newcomer has an enormous advantage if they are a Gorilla and are nimble.

We were right this time.
