There exists in this country a legitimate concern with creeping world government.
Fred,
Throughout our American history there have been various concerns about the growing power of centralized government. We had it when the Articles of Confederation were scrapped in exchange for the constitution and a Federal govt; when the South seceded from the North over states rights and slavery; when the Federal Reserve was created; when the League of Nations was formed; when alcohol was abolished; when the New Deal was implemented by Roosevelt..; when govt implemented wage and price controls during WWII; when the United Nations was formed; when the CIA/NSA was formed in 1947; when the "great society" was implemented during the '60s, when the dollar was taken off the gold standard during the '70s; and now when we see the WTO taking shape to handle global trade issues.
Each and everytime, someone or another tried to rile up the emotions of the common citizen with unsubstantiated BS about world govt bringing forth the "Anti-Christ".. or some other crap...
World Govt is inevitable, just as Federal Governments were in the past. The only issue is HOW those governments are formed and the rights of average citizens guaranteed under those governments.
Personally, I would have no problem with world government, SO LONG AS IT APPLIED THE SAME STANDARDS AND INALIENABLE RIGHTS THAT EXIST IN THE US CONSTITUTION.
In fact, I'm probably a minority among my fellow Americans in hoping one day that the world has matured enough to transition constitutional representative democracy from an American abhoration to a world model.
Although already an open secret, there is a large segment of the American populace who OPENLY ADVOCATE the restoration of absolute monarchy in both the United States, as well as the rest of the world.
In fact, these people pray about the return of such a altruistic, theocratic monarchy each and every Sunday....
I'm one of them..... <VBG>
