Sorry. Not so. At the time of the actual vandalism, the thousands of cops basically stood back and did nothing. There are incredible camera shots of cops a dozen feet from people smashing windows and the cops are doing NOTHING to stop it or protect the stores. But later in the evening, when most of the destruction had already been done and people were just milling around the streets, the cops come in with tear gas, pepper gas, and rubber bullets to drive peaceful and law abiding people off the streets of their own city.
