I don't remember what happened with CIENA/Tellabs a while back but think it had to do with accounting or other matters that were not disclosed to the Tellabs. In this case, we are in the fast growing fibre optics sector and most of these companies run at or near capacity. I don't expect any surprises on this one.


ATT cancelled a contract the morning CIEN shareholders were voting on the acquisition. The stock imploded and the deal fell through. Price fell from 90s to single digits over the following months, aided by the Asian crisis.

I have enormous respect for Patrick Nettles and his team for weathering what had to be a CEO's worst nightmare. The term most often used to describe him is honorable.
