Damian: Comments re ceramic vs plastic packaging stem from the general
perception that ceramic is a tougher, more reliable, more dielectrically stable packaging. Lower cost Resin packaging is attractive for consumer electronics such handheld PCS phones.

As for the dual band (840/1860) MHz PA , its a tough call. The North American 1860 MHz market won't be too large, with 7-12 million users projected (2001). The dual 840/1860 MHz market will be even smaller. Same perceptions apply to W. Europe....a better bet may be 800/900 MHz cellular combined with 1900 MHz DECT/Cordless, especially if the latter is for in-home/in building use without airtime charge. This sort of combo shouldn't need a 1900 Mhz PA greater than 20-23 dbm and should be a snap to build.

For many of the expected 100-200 Million PCS users (2002) in the rest of the world; 1.8-2.0 GHz will be the dominating technology. There will likely be more competition and larger markets with GSM/TDMA/CDMA modulation @ 1860 MHz than with 840/1860 MHz. Thus it seems to make more sense to have design flexibility/multi-mode operation at 1860 MHz. The CM1333 that Celeritek makes provides this flexiblity and is well positioned for this larger, more competitive market. The only thing that would make the CM1333 better would be a built-in charge-pump to get rid of the negative bias and simplify on/off sequencing. CLTK should also try to reduce the RF matching requirements. Oh yes.....put the thing in a 28 pin SSOP plastic package /J-D/
