Well, X, I would love to be in a small Irish hamlet spinning wool or selling stained glass baubles at crafts faires. Now that I am well back from Ireland I miss it greatly, although when I was there I felt like the food was tasteless (but the bathrooms were heavenly clean). Dublin was disappointing because housing costs are about the same as San Francisco, a city I am trying to escape so that I can actually own my own home, a fairly simple accomplishment in most places, I must admit.
So now I am pulled between the two countries! My husband would like to go live in his birthplace, Northern Ireland, a country I have been reluctant even to visit because of the Troubles. Now they may be over, so I believe he may be taking our wee bairn over there for a visit in the new year, to see if she might change her mind about living in the old sod. At sixteen she has decided that she is American, even though we have shamrocks and St. Brigit's crosses and posters of Irish patriots in almost every room.
I am sorry to say that I have not actually tie-dyed anything since my college days. Briana did go on such a spell in elementary school, but her interest has since waned. What I have been doing is watching the decorator's channel--HGTV on digital cable--and planning many improvements on the homefront. It is a wonderful channel, if you have not yet discovered it.
I am glad that you and your family are reasonably fine. I remember that a couple of years ago on this thread you remarked that your little girl was growing like a colt, which I thought was very colorful and well written. I must assume that the trend is continuing! I very much miss having a baby or small child about the scatter, but am contentedly taking a long rest and hoping for a grandchild while I am still young enough to play actively for one. Not wanting to encourage teenage pregnancy, however, I bite my tongue and wish silently . . . all the best to you and yours, X! |
