Isn't this pretty rare, Edwarda? The victim is usually a witness (unless the molester kills him/her) and there is usually DNA evidence, and child molesters are almost always repeat offenders. Although there have been several attempts, there has been no reliable treatment developed which works, so it makes sense that the community know who they are in order to protect themselves and their families.

I am all for freedom and everything, but the need to protect children from predators seems to be a more important societal goal.
