There was just this rather idiotic (oh, sorry) item on the wire from tomorrow's WSJ that is as neat a piece of journalistic equivocation as you'll find anywhere outside the pages of Time Magazine. It basically says MSFT and the DOJ may or may not settle, and if they do, the terms may or may not be such-and-such.

But the buzz about a settlement seems to be growing. I reiterate my doubts that Microsoft will settle on anything but unenforceable cream-puff terms, which means there will be no settlement. But if I'm wrong and cross-politics with the state AG's or whatever prompts the DOJ to sign a behavior-modification-only settlement in which Bill G. merely promises to become an Exemplary Human Being ("consistent transparent pricing" and the rest of that nonsense can and will be worked around so easily it's not even funny), Microsoft stock could go up 40% in a week. People are already saying it's cheap.

I hate to say it, but I'm buying some MSFT calls as a hedge.
