DSL will cannibalize ISDN in Western Europe

Western Europe will spark worldwide DSL expansion, says
IDC

12.1.99
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.?International Data Corp. (IDC) reports the
worldwide installed base of DSL lines has the potential to jump over
200% compounded annually from 1998 to 2003.

This growth rate would bring the number of lines in service from
70,000 in 1998 to over 27.3 million by 2003.

Once issues of standards, distance barriers, interoperability, installation
labor and time, voice and data integration are overcome, IDC predicts
that by 2003, 13 percent of homes accessing the Internet will do so
using DSL.

"European growth will be fueled by a migration of conversion of ISDN
lines to DSL beginning in late 2001. Once this migration begins, it will
proceed at an explosive pace," said Brad Baldwin, director for IDC's
Remote Access research program.

My question: Does anyone Last Miler knows how this is proceeding at you side of the swamp?

Thanks for any reply.
