TORONTO, ONTARIO--
- Wireless Network Will Be Model For Region -
In an announcement made yesterday, The Bermuda Government's Ministry of Telecommunications and E-Commerce has approved a new license for North Rock Communications Ltd. to provide wireless Internet access across Bermuda. The new license paves the way for North Rock to deliver high speed Internet access directly to homes and businesses using WaveRider Communication's (OTC BB: WAVC, Frankfurt WVR.FSE) technology.
This approval follows a September appearance by Charles Brown, Vice President of Marketing, WaveRider Communications Inc. before the Telecommunications Commission. Mr. Brown highlighted the value of the North Rock-WaveRider partnership to Bermuda, an island fast emerging as an international business center. As development plans roll out, WaveRider will work alongside North Rock to showcase their wireless technology and its capabilities for enabling e-commerce.
``Our partnership with WaveRider will allow North Rock Communications to offer premium high speed Internet service to all of Bermuda,' said Tom Coelho, General Manager of North Rock. ``By eliminating the need for third party involvement we will be able to provide rapid delivery of high quality access, competitive prices and better customer service.'
North Rock and WaveRider have worked closely together over the last six months to achieve this important breakthrough. This amended license solidifies WaveRider's position in the Caribbean as the top provider of wireless Internet access products. The contract, valued at over $2.5 million, will be installed over the next 18 - 24 months.
``WaveRider has emerged as a company well-established in the Caribbean region,' said Bruce Sinclair, President and CEO, WaveRider Communications Inc. ``The Last Mile Solution(r) (LMS) product family will be the first wireless wide area network deployed in the world, delivering Internet access products from 128kbps to 11Mbps using 'non line-of-sight`` and 'line-of-sight`` applications for the home and business market respectively. The significance of the decision is twofold: A prestigious government body has recognized that WaveRider's solution fits the bill for an entire country; and, that wireless networks such as those planned by North Rock and WaveRider for Bermuda will become the model throughout the Caribbean and beyond.'
