When I was in graduate school (pre fall of the Wall) the consensus was that the biggest threat to the "success" of Communism was the rise of the multi-national corporation...that eventually the forces of global capitalism would simply overwhelm those economies and "do them in." I suspected it was true, but didn't expect to see it in my lifetime.

Now that I look at the WTO over the past few years, I wonder if the same fate won't befall Western style "democracy." Again I suspect it to be true, but don't expect to see it in my lifetime...But hey, I've been wrong before, no?

Afterall, democratically enacted labor and environmental laws can be very "ineffecient" and "annoying" to the forces of global capitalism and "free trade".

...and we know what happens to inefficient political systems when enough money is applied to their demise.

>>>I would welcome a world govt based upon the values and principles of the US constitution. I would think that others would be in favor of that as well.<<<

You have no idea how contradictory the phrase "world govt. based upon the values and principles of the US constitution" sounds. You also have now idea how truly frightening that "idea" is to the "others" you so casually assume would be in favor of this.

I think the cause of "free trade" and global capitalism is about to get a serious set-back in the not too distant future. We'll see how well everyone deals with the very large turd about to appear in the global punchbowl, no?
