Lack of glass fibre delays broadband investment

Dagens Industri, 1999-11-30
Demand of fibre-optic cables has increased so
much that there currently is a lack of cables at
Alcatel AKO Kabel and Ericsson Cables - the only
two manufacturers in Sweden. Ericsson Cable has
employed 100 people this autumn and has 600
employees today. "The market for fibre-optic
cables has grown by 20-30 percent annually so far,
but the Internet is a driving force and the growth
rate could be higher than this next year. We are
approaching a situation where there's a lack of
cables next year," says Jan Sj”d‚n, president of
Ericsson Cables in Hudiksvall.
