I threw that question at some of the experts. They disagreed, in fact they said that further from y2k the less likely will be any system failures. As I mentioned, they have all kinds of response teams all over the globe ready to react with proven fixes. As the clock moves on, the effects of these responses will reduce and eliminate the y2k failures that do occur.
