McDroogies: I am familiar with that explanation, which was the one given by Rosen and Co. after they suddenly reversed their plan to float Alta Vista in the Fall of 1999 and retain it as an important strategic tool in COMPAQ's "internet strategy". My question was rhetorical - I know why they did it - I just don't agree that it was the best thing to do. But we have thrashed it to death here in the past.

The guys running Alta Vista now are the same guys running it when it belonged to COMPAQ.
