Frank - Thank you for your response. The diagram in the article was helpful to me - as a nontechie - in understanding the thrust of the article.

So, in the end, these "other" protocols such as Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and pure IP over lambda are still very much relegated to campus and intranet uses, where dark fiber or lambda contracts can be put in effect, but where extending these protocols to other communities remains
an unlikely capability at affordable pricing, during the near term.


Are you saying we will see pure IP over lambda in the LAN before we have in the WAN?
