Fred,

I don't think a reduced short position is "sweet music for IOMGeans who are long." It only reduces future buying power. Carlton Lutts touted the stock in part, due the large short position. What is Cabot going to say when that changes?

Here is more from the May 27 MacWEEK article:

Iomega Corp.of Roy, Utah, last week found some needed working capital with a stock split and a proposed secondary offering.

The additional stock shares will primarily go to bolster its management recruiting effort, the company said. Iomega grew from 900 employees in 1995 to about 2,000 this spring...

Regardless of whether the above mentioned shares came from the split or the offering, I can only conclude that they had to put some aside as hiring incentives in management compensation packages. How many? Who knows.
