Yesterday, I called Micron to ask about sales of Jaz and Zip drives. The sales representative said, without my asking him first, that he has sold systems with Jaz drives in place of fixed hard drives. The customers put a different operating system on each disk. The downside: You must turn the computer off to change disks.

The representative also said that demand for Zip drives was so heavy that he estimated about 25% of the systems he sells go out with Zips in them. He said that was remarkably high because they only sell Zips in systems with Windows 95 as the operating system.
