<< Kent State? Why are we discussing Kent STate? Protests must be taken one by one- they are all very different. >>

To point out that the police can act as a mob also. I agree that protests should be taken one by one. Those who are destructive should be arrested, and the rest should be left alone. I do not believe in collective punishment.

<< THIS protest in Wa had violence and destruction. I don't care if the majority weren't responsible for it. The merchants of Wa deserve protection of their stores. Remember that we cannot be deprived of our property without due process- if the government allows protestors to destroy private property by protecting the right to assembly the government is in effect depriving someone else of their right to property. As I see it you have competing Constitutional issues here. You may not LIKE Starbucks or whatever other businesses were vandalized but that is hardly relevant. >>

Are you bothered by the police taking away radios and cell phones without due process? Also you are lumping all of the protestors together. There were representatives from farmers groups, labor groups, child welfare advocates, witches and many others. You would deny them all a voice because of the actions of a few, over which they probably had no control? There is no Constitutional issue here, the police should arrest those who are being destructive of other's property wherever possible, and leave the rest alone.

<< You can talk all you want about government agitators- but there is not a shred of evidence for that at this point. I choose not to believe in things without proof. >>

Do you know at this point who the destructive ones were? I don't. Why are you so eager to believe that they came from the protestors without proof? I am very interested in finding out who they were. You already made up your mind.

If we use your method and shut down every protest when the windows start breaking, you can be sure that in the future the police will see to it that windows are broken at every protest, like they did at Madison. It's much cheaper to replace windows than to pay 3,000 police overtime.
