I don't think anyone is condoning violent acts here, X. However, the right of people to congregate in a public forum, carry signs, make speeches, and chant slogans, is guaranteed by our Constitution. It is one of our most basic, cherished freedoms. My right of peaceful assembly should not be abridged because someone else broke the law. That's it, end of story, IMO. As for what the Mayor "should" do, or what the police "should" do, I won't venture an opinion as I am not there, and I am not in their shoes. But, whatever they do, it should not be at the expense of the right of peaceful assembly.
