Thanks Jim, it started more as a "what-if" to some of the thin client fanatics but it really does have merit. As bandwidth/data storage approaches the MBIT/GBIT level servers just become intelligent remote disks; perhaps running a small fast embedded OS with an LDAP or light weight DB interface. As an end user in that scenario, I then want the power (fatness) on my destkop to help me model all that remote data. In a couple of years we'll be able to buy multi-GHZ multi-CPU desktops for < $1000.
