Having grown up in the Deep South during segregation, I have a hard time accepting that the educated elite intended the barbaric evil perpetrated against black people, but they did, and I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears. Schoolteachers, college professors, doctors, lawyers, business owners, ministers. Not all, but most, the vast majority, not only went along with the status quo, but mouthed unspeakable aphorisms to justify their acts to themselves.
