Mohan: Indira Gandhi--Woman in the last 1000 years!. I can believe that. I don't agree with a few things that she did, like the suspension of democracy and the Golden Temple invasion. According to some observers, she could have plugged all the entry and exit points, cut off water, electricity etc to achieve the same purpose. But you have to judge the woman according to the difference she made in the lives of people, places, country etc. But when it comes to leadership, she is numero uno. Among her colleagues, Indira was the man, that is in a complimentary sense. Certain people believe that women like Indira Gandhi and Goldameyer, Margaret Thatcher had a physiological propensity for leadership in that they have / had higher levels of male hormone in their system. That gave the oomph. It takes guts and Balls to engage pakistan militarily, clip their eastern wing, namely Bangla Desh and cater to TEN MILLION refugees. That same spirit made her enter the Golden Temple - wrong in this case - and flush out the militants. According to her, the integrity of nation is more important than her own safety & violation of a sacred Gurudwara is less important than national integrity. She paid a heavy price for that. The only stupidity, I don't still understand, is that she allowed the Sikh guards to protect her, against the advice of security people. She also mentioned that she removed one obstacle, by setting the precedent, the precedent being that the Indian Govt has the right to enter any holy place with the military to flush out terrorists. That holy place could be a Hindu Temple, a Gurdvara, a Mosque etc. |
