Young: I believe you have one fact wrong. Please correct me if I have this wrong.

The Zip drive does not use the Bernouilli principle that was the basis of the old Iomega Bernouilli drives. (The Bernouilli principle involves the shape of the head and air flow between it and the flexible media, pulling the media close to the head, but never touching.)

The Zip drive is actually simpler. It uses hard-disk type read/write heads on a new flexible media called ATOMM, made by Fuji. The use of a new programable analog read/write channel chip made by Impex adds to the bit density.

For more info on the media try a Lycos or AltaVista search on ATOMM.
ATOMM stands for Advanced Super Thin Layer & High Output Metal Media
