Jim: When CD-R gets to around $300 I'll get one too. :-) I don't expect to see that this year, though.

BTW, one of my favorite companies, Hewlett-Packard makes a very good CD-R. I'm long on HPW, as well as IOMG.

None of which changes the fact that the magnetic, re-writable Zip and Jaz, and the write-once CD-R will sell to different markets. Their respective sales will be determined by drive price, media price, useability, time to market, and marketing.

Right now, I just don't see CD-R as a ANY threat to Zip. Next year, it might be a threat to Jaz. But then, by next year, Jaz may be improved. A 2Gb or greater Jaz will beat a slower 650Mb CD-R any day.
