CERTICOM A CERTAINTY
If there is such a thing in the stock market as a certainty, Certicom Corp. (CIC-TSE) would seem to be it.
Analyst Paul Lechem, of CIBC World Markets, says the encryption technology company is well positioned to provide security solutions for the fast-growing areas of wireless communications, e-commerce and the Internet.
He is maintaining his buy recommendation on the stock, with a 12-month target price of $55 a share.
Mr. Lechem expects, he says, it will break even on an operating basis early in 2001 and quickly improve its profitability after that.
His comments -- and a rise in the share price of $3 to $49 -- followed release by Certicom of its second-quarter earnings.
Revenue rose 22 per cent to $2.6 million from $2.1 million the previous quarter, while its operating loss was down from $5.7 million a year earlier to $1.6 million.
