** Online toy sites fight for serious business

Fierce competition among online toy sellers is driving Web
operators to streamline their operations and emphasize customer
service. Evidence is contained in a quarterly report released
Thursday by Gomez Advisors whose latest quarterly rating of toy
e-tailers rated Etoys (ETYS) tops, only slightly ahead of
Amazon.com (AMZN). Gomez analyst Liz Leonard said the two sites
are in "a classic case of two online retail heavyweights engaging
in a battle of one-upmanship to capture customers." Consumers are
being served well by the online toy industry, Leonard said.
"Customers have access to experts who provide insight that is far
more valuable than what they will get from a clerk at a
bricks-and-mortar store. In addition, friendly return policies,
competitive pricing and features such as Amazon's 'Gift Click' or
Etoys' Idea Center are very attractive to consumers," she added.
Other top-rated online toy retailers were KBKids, SmarterKids.com
and ZanyBrainy.com.
