"HDR requires operators to dedicate a whole carrier to data, rather than sharing data and voice over the same spectrum. " As I recall from the video of the HDR presentation, with the present ASIC, HDR must be on a dedicated channel (1.25MHz wide) and can not be mixed with voice. This was covered by Don Schrock, head of the ASIC group. I was glad to find this link qualcomm.com which gives a MSM roadmap. Confirms my recollection, need a MSM4500, due in Q2 2001, to mix voice and HDR on one channel. These are the view graphs from the HDR presentation and are well worth the time (loads slow, Acrobat file).
