Ron you probably would have been a loyalist to the Bristish as that is what they thought of the colonist rabblerousers....
Hmmm.... so should I infer that you are advocating an overthrow of the US Government and scrapping the Constitution?
Because I'm defending the ability of a Republican Democracy to temporarily suspend individual rights until order is restored and life and property are no longer in danger, not the permanent suspension of rights. And there are endless precedents for such temporary suspensions.
Under the British system, colonialists possessed only those rights that the British Crown permitted them to have.
And in fact, I not willing to demonize the British Tories who remained supportive of the British. But needless to say, I'm glad they didn't win, also. In fact, most of them went to Canada.
And I like Canadians... <VBG>
Why is it that you support the right of such groups to hold non-permitted/licensed gatherings that disrupt the rights of so many people to travel and conduct business freely in Seattle? Why do you support the right of the few to intimidate and threaten and undermine the rights of the many?
Let me ask you something... What would you do if a group of protesters suddenly showed up on your street, completely blocking traffic and vandalizing property (like your car or home)??
Would you call the police??
What would you expect the police to do??
Would you permit them to use force if they were threatened or assaulted by the mob??
What if they broke into your house and threatened your family?
Would you defend yourself, or would you humble yourself before these active participants in a display of 1st amendment rights?
Or would you join them?
In sum, the question is how much authority do our government leaders possess to prevent threats to life and limb, or to protect personal property??
If they did nothing, they would be criticized. When they do too much they are criticized.
