From Redherring:

"We also received some mail regarding our comment that Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM) has a failed business model. We would like to clarify what we meant by that. The Red Eye believes that Excite@Home is essentially a failed business proposition for one major reason: the model is completely dependent upon the build-out of the cable system to improve those last two to three miles of cable to the consumer's home. For this process Excite@Home relies entirely upon the cable companies and their speed to implementation. Now, if any of you have waited and waited for a cable repairperson to come to your house, you can understand why the Red Eye is skeptical.

And finally, a note from a happy DSL subscriber.

"I have DSL in my home in Pacifica, California. The good news is I am very happy with it. The problem [with DSL] is not so much in the delivery, because if you speak to PacBell they will tell you that they simply do not have enough trained technical support (a general problem throughout the technology industry today). The problem is that the broadband revolution is like the PC revolution of ten years ago -- nobody knows how it really fits together, and getting an installation to work is very painful.

Personally, I feel blessed to have DSL." "

Sounds like AOL and SBC are paying Redherring off for anti-@Home articles.
