Will current stable linux run on i820 motherboards with RAMBUS rimms?

I am finding it surprisingly difficult to get a reply on this matter.
(Perhaps 'cause no one actually DOES have a i820 with rambus except
for engineering samples--- but lately Intel has taken it to showcasing
linux on any new chip they put out, right?)

I usually build my own computers, but now I'm looking at a Dell
xps D with a 733 P3, 133 MHz FSB, 512 MB of PC800 Rambus RIMMs,
etc... but I only care to run linux on it.

Does linux run well on athlon systems? That might be an alternative.

(I need to repetitively make FFTs of matrices sized 1280*1024*64 )

Thanks!
