The Vancouver Sun reports in its Friday edition that Mainframe
Entertainment has posted encouraging second-quarter results this week.
Showbiz columnist Joanne Morgan says the company's earnings were $700,000,
or four cents a share, compared with a loss of $5.9-million, or 43 cents,
for the same period last year. Mainframe chief financial officer Brett
Gannon says the $8.2-million in revenues that the company brought in for
the first six months of this year was higher that its revenues for the
entire previous year. He says that management expects the numbers for the
next six months to be even higher. Earlier this year, Mainframe completed a
financial restructuring. Giant screen pioneer Imax invested $16-million in
the company, while Royal Bank Ventures and Working Opportunity Fund
invested an additional $9-million. Mr. Gannon says there is definitely a
turnaround. He says the company has reached a point where it is operating
at near capacity in its television division year-round, and in addition, it
is enjoying the benefits of having found in Imax a place where it can
allocate its film overhead.
