Gary, have you forgotten what happened to many companies with abysmal track records. Let me remind you, how about, IBM, Chrysler, Apple. Did you Know that Intel had a horrible time in the early 80's and were it not for the US gov't. standing up for Intel in matters concerning the Japanese dumping charges, Intel might have faded away. Need I remind you how ATT was doing until recently. I shall not bore you by dropping more names but 3Com's past foibles have been far less than many of the aforementioned companies, nevertheless, look how these companies turned the corner to lead their respective sectors. Unlike Chrysler, 3Com needs no help from US tax payers, Unlike Apple 3Com made a success story out of their Palm while Apple failed with Newton, unlike IBM and Apple, 3Com has pinned down MSFT and circumscribed it to the PC. Unlike ATT it has not taken 3Com forever to refocus and restructure their operations. 3Com has shown remarkable flexibility by keeping its options open in matters concerning future standards and platforms in the emerging markets and has been a vanguard in fostering uniformity. |
