Well, I don't have a huge list of avoids. I avoid McDonald's because their meals always rate the unhealthiest of all the fast food outlets, and I think someone who targets young children the way they do has a resonsibility to provide decent nutrition. I don't buy from Nike, but my son does. I don't buy from the Gap. I don't buy Dow products because I am still upset with their role in Agent Orange.

Mostly, though, it goes the other way. I try to patronize companies which I believe are making an honest effort to be socially responsible. Many of those are small, local companies.

I don't make a fetish out of it, but I do try to consider social issues in my decision making.
