Mike -
I give up. DELL has never managed more than about 8% NET. That's OK, that's good... but it means that since servers have better than 12% net margins, and options (disk memory etc) take high end desktops up closer to 10%, then DELL MUST be selling some stuff at less than 7% - simple math right??? Do you have any idea what the current net margins are for the Dimension line??? What will they be for consumer products which are cheaper yet? Are they currently selling any lines with 4% or less net?

You talk about forecasting as having something to do with CPQ's consumer business. Do you know that virtually the whole of the consumer line is pre-sold before it is manufactured, and goes right off the dock to the retailers - just like DELL?? It is obvious that you have no idea about how this business works. It is not anything like CPQ's commercial business. And DELL's consumer business will not be anything like their commercial business either. That's why they set up a separate business unit to run it.

Please take a little time to understand the mechanics of the business, even if it's just DELL's business you want to look at. This whole discussion has exceeded my ability to stay interested.
