<<<I'm still waiting for you to tell us how this matter should have been handled differently>>>

The police chief here has admitted that they knew the Anarchists were coming and had threatened to do vandalism. In lieu of this I think they should have had a strike force available to catch them if/when they did. There was a reporter on TV following around the anarchists for at least a half hour while they were breaking windows, etc etc and there wasnt a cop in site. Keep in mind that this was only a few blocks from where there were hundreds of police. Maybe the police should watch the tv coverage for their intelligence. This is a huge embarasment. If I was more cynical I would think that they allowed the anarchists activities of destruction as an excuse to come down on the peaceful protesters. That's my suggestion: be prepared to catch the bad guys.

Another point you seem to be unaware of is that for the most part protesters have observed the "no-protest zone". On Wednesday night they were gassing and rubber bulleting people on capital hill, which is not in the "no-protest zone"
