Greenspan to Speak at Commerce Department Data Commemoration

Washington, Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan will speak at a ceremony Tuesday commemorating the development of statistics on U.S. income and output, including measurement of gross domestic product.

Commerce Secretary William Daley and Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Martin Baily will also speak at the event, which will commemorate economic research begun by Simon Kuznets at the Commerce Department in the 1930s. Kuznets received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1971, when he was a professor emeritus at Harvard University.

The event will designate the creation of the GDP measurement as the Commerce Department's Achievement of the Century.
