Paullie: Long term stocks -- in answer to your post:

CSCO: I would NOT pick CSCO as one of the top stocks to own over the NEXT 5 years. They will always be around and be a core player, but they are being "nibbled to death by ducks". By that, I mean, there are an increasing number of small companies coming onto the market with individual products superior to CSCO offerings , each in different sector (JNPR: faster routers; FDRY: network protocol; RBAK: subscription manager; FFIV: voice-over-IP equipment). CSCO is responding by buying as many promising private upstart companies in various sectors before they become IPOs, but the writing is clearly on the wall. Their growth rate will slow over the next 5 years and they are already overvalued for their current growth rate. I own CSCO and will keep as LT hold to avoid taxes, but will NOT add new money.

JDSU or ETEK: pick JDSU

EMC or NTAP: both are great companies and excellent picks.

MOT or NOK: pick NOK. NOK is eating Motorola's (and everyone else's) lunch.

Other thoughts:

non-PC chip stocks: PMCS; BRCM

interactive TV: Gemstar Intl (GMST)

software (CRM, B2B enabling, etc.): VIGN, SEBL, VRTS, LGTO, ITWO.

Paullie, bon appetit.
