The wife you speak of here...only contributes more taxpayers to the system...Is that not an honorable profession...And [s]he gets only a percentage of her husbands benefits...

I'll not mention my first thought, but instead try to make an illustration with regard to how I'm assuming you see the situation:

A woman by choice chooses to have children. She then by choice chooses to stay home and raise said children. When she comes to retirement she suggests that she (at the top of the pyramid) has a number of underlings which will contribute to her satisfactory retirement needs much in the same way one would become a multi-level marketer and sign up other distributors thereby getting a percentage of their earnings.

Well it sounds good on paper, but the bottom line is that the stay-at-home wife/mother made the choice to do so. I can't help but wonder just how much foresight was given to the choice. You spoke of responsibility (further up thread, not the post to which I'm responding) yet seem to suggest that there is an exception and somehow it should be applied towards those who, for whatever reason, are unable to maintain a livable lifestyle.

I know it will sound callous, but I believe the old saying about making one's bed would apply. Of course there are circumstances beyond one's control. Unfortunately, that is life.

I don't suppose it ever occured to you that the World Bank is also helping to build economies outside our own which in turn helps to maintain our own. Were our ecomomy to stagnate and subsequently decline, the unemployment level would rise dramatically forcing more of our resources to help those with children who could conceivably become unemployed. Hence, it stands to reason retirees might even get less than now.

Don't you feel better now? :-)
