Wireless messaging by early 2000 in Britain in an article about British Telecom and the Network service Freeserve.
One of the first services to be delivered to Freeserve customers is an email notification service on mobile phones, which will be available from late January. Genie Internet customers already receive the service, which forwards the first 140 characters of an email to a mobile phone.
In late January, Freeserve customers will be able to type an SMS on their personal computer screen and send it from the Internet direct to any digital mobile phone user.
Peter Erskine, managing director of BT Cellnet, said in a statement that from the middle of 2000, when GPRS technology is rolled out, customers will have mobile Internet access which is five to 10 times faster than current speeds.
"We are on the brink of a mobile Internet revolution and this alliance is part of Freeserve's commitment to ensure we can provide services and content to our customers on all platforms, using all devices and on all networks," John Pluthero, Freeserve's chief executive, said in a statement. |
