I do not agree with your assessment of "feelies"--to the point where I think that over time it has served as an excellent illustration of Lewis's thesis. I have watched people's outlooks broaden and seen them in times of crisis reach out to people with whom they have argued savagely.

Periodically during its long tenure, this thread has been strife ridden, yet it emerges from the frays and most of the people on the thread or peripherally keeping an eye on it have learned to care for one another, even when they have withdrawn from the thread because of an uneasiness with its direction at times. The tenseness that unfortunately entered the thread seems to have responded to SI Bob's "wet blanket" and the thread is now moving back toward civilized discussions where there is sharp disagreement at times but an overall respect taken as a given.

What you found intriguing about The Great Divorce is what I did as well. The "condemned" condemned themselves. Yet there were people who found redemption by kicking aside the posturing and self-justifying nonsense and learning to be. I have seen this happen on "feelies" over time with a number of individuals, whom I congratulate.

I have watched the personal growth of some of the people on "feelies" as they try to deal honestly with some of the issues that come up on the thread. I congratulate these people. That the thread can become very contentious from time to time does not take away from its ability to foster growth over the long term for many of the participants.
