ARRINGTON: NO DECISION ABOUT WHETHER TO LEAVE FOR NFL

(AP) - Penn State's LaVar Arrington said Friday he is still
mulling whether to stay in school or leave early for the NFL
after the Alamo Bowl. Experts have tabbed Arrington to go high in
the NFL draft if he decides to bolt. "That plays a big part
obviously, if you know you're going to be a top pick," he said.
"That's not the determining factor, but it's something I will
consider. My family and I are still talking about it, weighing
things." He did not say when he might announce his plans, saying
only that he didn't want his decision to distract the Nittany
Lions from their preparations for the Dec. 28 bowl against Texas
A&M. The linebacker is a finalist for four defensive awards --
the Butkus, Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski awards -- and will
spend next week jetting from Charlotte, N.C., to Houston to
Orlando, Fla., for the four awards banquets in five days.
