Mark--

I saw that coverage of the "ananrchists" by the T.V reporter as well. I also saw several hours of independent coverage of the "Battle in Seattle" via public access T.V. and listened to numerous live interviews and reports.

One protestor relayed an incident involving the looting of a store by the "anarchists" who after they began sacking the store were surrounded by screaming protestors chanting "No Looting!" and forced to put the stolen items back. Protestors out in front of the store on the sidewalk tried to flag down police to stop and arrest the looters to no avail. They drove on by towards a mass gathering of protesters (the same place the "good samaritin" protesters were headed.) Some protestors stayed behind to protect the store much to the relief of the manager who realized he'd get no help from the police. This occurred on the second day of the mass protest, first day of looting, late in the afternoon in BROAD DAYLIGHT. The police were much more interested in clearing the streets at any cost due to Clinton's arrival than preventing crime occurring right in front of their faces.

That night another protester witnessed police the drive by a group of ananrchists vandalizing and stealing from a row of stores while one shop manager/owner? and a few others screamed for assistance. Yet another reported police on foot ignoring looting as they made their way to the scene of a demonstration...Make of it what you will.

No surprise that a substantial portion Seattle's citizenry is disgusted with the police and calling for the resignation of both the mayor and the chief of police.

As many of us know the next morning hundreds of protestors turned out in the morning to clean streets and wash storefronts.

I sent an email to the Mayor of Seattle with the sincerest wish that the law suits stemming from this incident bring the city to the brink of receivership.
