rll, I purchased a RCA Lyra with 64MB CF card... Thanks for posting your user experience. In the end the satisfaction of end-users (such as each one of us) will determine whether or not products sell. The "MPX" designation is bothersome to me. It suggests that all future generations of mp3 can be played on this device. However, the fact that the files must be encoded using proprietary software and transferred via the RCA card writer itself indicates a level of control that many will not be happy with (except content providers). I now realize why an ImageMate was not included in the purchase. My understanding from reviews I have read about the Lyra indicates that once a song is composed (digitally compressed into a MPX or competing standard) that it is linked intimately with the CF card or the player such that it canot be transferred to other users. With my Cassiopeia E-100 (which can now be purchased on line for under $400.00) I am listening to mp3 files created on MusicMatch Jukebox (PC based) and played on Conduits Palm Player with no restrictions. I could create a Zip disc with 15 or 20 songs and send it to a friend or family member to play on their PC or portable device. Also, my Pontis MP3 player has no restrictions other than the fact that I have been too cheap to buy new MMC cards. Thus, I am stuck with only 16MB or storage (2 x 8MB). I understand the need for security for content providers, but I believe the complexity of the security mechanisms will greatly impede acceptance of the final product and will inevitably send consumers scrambling for ways to circumvent these security obstacles.
