Look, it's his property and he can do anything he wants with it within the zoning regulations of the area. If the environmental whackos are so strong in their beliefs, they can always buy the land from him or petition the town to declare it a historical preserve or take it away from him via emminent domain. Otherwise, tough cookies to them.
