Fascinating, and not just a little mind boggling, to think that such algorithmic horsepower would be working on a billion users' preferences and wishes in the not-too-distant future. The wasted storage and processing issues, which are parts of the tradeoff analyses in your post, come to mind here. But, in light of the new storewidth paradigm, as recently enumerated by Gilder, is this really a concern to us as we go forward? And could not having these capabilities embedded at some point be seen as a competitive disadvantage?
