Actually Lizzie, I do have a heightened sensitivity toward the old growth left. And make it a point to spend a few days every year hiking or camping in the Hoe Rain forest, which is about a 2 hours drive from my house. By the way, if anyone finds themselves in the Pacific Northwest. There is truly no forest as spectacular as the Hoe. I moved to the Northwest, specifically because I love to be surrounded by large trees.

I've often thought that we should pass a law, something to the effect. Any forest over say...800 years should be protected as a national treasure. Of course, I would expect us the taxpayers to pay for any such tracts privately owned in that eventuality. If I understand JLA and Edwarda's point accurately, I agree, if we think it's an important piece of land. We should PAY for it and not confiscate it through laws from private owners.

If the government wanted my car I would expect them to pay for it. Private land is no different to me?
