Being as you are a left coaster you may not remember the Dutch Elm Disease that took millions of huge Elms or the Chestnut blight that wiped out our native Chestnuts. It was once said that a person could go from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River and never leave the shade of a Chestnut tree.

Now you may not know but there are a few acres between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mississippi River. Millions of trees were lost to disease from overseas due to the import of goods like say roller blades. Losing more now due to imports from Asia and the Asian beetle.
