Steven (and "Mucho") -- my "giving up and just start buying" JDSU was triggered by several things including :

Hearing that CSCO's market cap. is now $300 billion

Hearing the main man from JDSU on CNBC. He reminded me in some ways of Qualcomm's Dr. Irwin Jacobs -- as someone once said on one of the Qualcomm threads : this guy seems to be excited about what his company is doing. He had passion. He is not just doing it to "earn a living."

Also -- his description of JDSU's business prospects was something like : "every everything on the planet Earth wants to "build out" their whatever with fiber. We feel we have lots of business ahead of us for the forseeable future ..." (or, something like that).

Also - Mr. JDSU (I am sorry, I have no idea what his name is ...) said that the things JDSU manufactures are incredibly difficult to make. He specifically used the phrase "huge barriers to entry." (This, too, reminded me of Qualcomm).

George Gilder (who is actually smart enough to really understand these sorts of things) thinks JDSU is in the right business.

The thought that any "institutionalized" investor who feels compelled to deploy money in fiber optic related investments will most probably HAVE to put funds into JDSU.

And lastly -- the morning of the day I "gave up and started buying " JDSU (in the afternoon), a friend happened to show me a single strand of a fiber optic cable (correct word (?)), and told me that his buddy at the phone company said 90,000 phone calls can take place simultaneously through a single strand.

Jon.
